Everyversion security commitment

We host no installers. Every download link goes to the download location named in the package listing, normally the publisher’s own server. For this software we downloaded the files from that source ourselves, re-computed each checksum and checked the code signature where our tools could, as shown above. A passing check shows a file is the one that was published; it is not a guarantee it is free of problems. For more information, visit our Security and Trust Center.

# Welcome to Blockbench 5.2 - The Screen-Space Update! ## Highlights of this update: • Screen-Space Brush • Layer Groups • 3D Plane Reference Images • Movable Reference Models • New Color Wheel • Better Inverse Kinematics **Update Video:** [Blockbench 5.2 is out! All new features - Youtube](https://youtu.be/9MET5-wH5uw) ## Screen-Space Brush The Screen Space brush (#1384) is a new brush preset that lets you paint on the viewport as if it was a flat painting. It does not snap to the face your are painting, and is ideal for painting and blending together the edges between faces. Like most brush options, there are two ways to enable this: • You can use a brush preset. Press the small down arrow next to the brush tool and use the built-in "Screen Space Brush" preset. Or click "Brush Presets..." and create your own preset with the "Screen Space Brush Projection" option enabled • Use the "Screen Space Brush Projection" toggle and add it to a toolbar or a keyboard shortcut. This is useful for toggling the option on the fly without switching to a different brush. ## References • Added the new view mode "3D Plane" for reference images. This lets you place your reference image in the 3D space of your project, it will move with the model as you move your view. • Added new "Add Reference Image" dialog. This provides basic options when adding a new reference image, such as selecting the view mode. • Video reference images now have a video controls UI (#2800). This lets you skip to a…

Release notes

Welcome to Blockbench 5.0! This update introduces multiple new elements, a new design, armatures, and much more! image Armatures Armatures introduce a new way of animating models. Attach an armature to a mesh to create a rig, then animate the rig. Rigs can bend and deform meshes, allowing greater flexibility when setting up a model for animation. Alongside armatures, the new tool "Weight Brush" has been added. This tool lets you control which parts of a mesh are affected by a certain bone. Select the tool, select a bone, and then paint on the mesh. A black area on your mesh indicates that the bone has no effect on it. The warmer the color, the higher the effect of the bone will be. A red vertex will be fully controlled by the bone. You can automatically calculate vertex weights based on the position of the bones, and the weight brush lets you refine this. - Added Armatures - Added Armature Bones - Added new Weight Brush tool - Added Vertex Weight and Vertex Bone Color view modes image Splines Splines are a new mesh type that simplify the creation of long mesh shapes following a specific path. Splines offer a great way to model objects like cables, branches, pipes, snakes, stylized hair, and all sorts of shapes like that. Overview over spline functionality Thanks to @Azagwen for developing this new feature! UI Changes - Upgraded the design of Blockbench, introducing more rounded corners, gradients, shadows, and paddings, and improving usability - Multiple panels can now be…

Blockbench FAQ

Is Blockbench safe to download from here?

We host no installers. Every download button goes to the download location named in the package listing, and the checks below were run on those files.

On 2026-11-08 we downloaded the latest 3 installers from those sources and re-computed the SHA-256 of each: 3 of 3 match the package catalog’s value. Code signatures: 1 valid, 2 not signed.

VirusTotal: one engine out of 64 flagged Blockbench_5.2.2.exe. A single flag among that many engines is usually a false alarm. We still list it under Detections.

Reports exist for 2 of 4 files, so the rating does not cover the rest.

Our rating: Safe so far. No check is a guarantee. See the security details above and our Security and Trust Center. Publisher’s website: Blockbench’s official website.

Does Blockbench update itself after I install an old version?

For Windows, we have no information on whether Blockbench updates itself, and for Mac, we have no confirmation that the app updates itself, although many apps check for updates and offer to install them. Look for an update setting in Blockbench (see Blockbench’s documentation) before you rely on an older version.

Does Blockbench cost anything?

No. Blockbench is free and open source (license: GPL-3.0).

Which versions of Blockbench are listed here, and how far back?

For Windows, we list 50 versions, from 4.0.5 up to 5.2.2 (the catalog has 63, and we keep the newest 50), and for Mac, only the current release (5.2.2) is listed, because older Mac builds are not kept in the package listing, and for Linux, we list 1 version, from 5.2.2 (2026-10-08) up to 5.2.2. This page shows the newest 20 Windows versions; the JSON and Markdown files for this app list all 50 Windows versions.

Where do the download links go?

They go straight to the source named in the package catalog, with nothing added by us: for Windows, to github.com, and for Mac, to github.com, and for Linux, to dl.flathub.org. We host no files. Compare the SHA-256 shown next to each file with the one you compute after downloading. Publisher’s website: Blockbench’s official website.
