What the installer does

Windows

• Delivered as a WiX Burn bootstrapper (.exe) for x64 and ARM64.
• Installs for the current user only, so administrator rights are normally not needed.
• No custom silent switch is declared; winget falls back to its default for this installer type (/quiet /norestart).
• Associates with the file type .protondoc.
• Upgrades install over the existing version.

Mac

• Delivered as a disk image (.dmg) for Apple silicon and Intel.
• Installs the app Proton Drive.app into the Applications folder.
• Requires macOS 13 or later.
• The app updates itself, so it may be newer than the version Homebrew lists.
• On uninstall, Homebrew stops background services.
• A full “zap” removal also deletes up to 6 support, cache and preference locations in your home folder.
