What the installer does
Windows
- Delivered as a standalone setup program (.exe) for x64 and ARM64.
- Installs for the current user only, so administrator rights are normally not needed.
- Supports unattended install with
/headless. - Declared install modes: interactive, silent, and silentWithProgress.
- Registers the
jetbrains://link protocol. - Upgrades install over the existing version.
Mac
- Delivered as a disk image (.dmg) for Intel (x64) and Apple silicon (ARM64).
- Installs the app
JetBrains Toolbox.appinto the Applications folder. - The app updates itself, so it may be newer than the version Homebrew lists.
- On uninstall, Homebrew asks the app to quit and stops background services.
- A full “zap” removal also deletes up to 9 support, cache and preference locations in your home folder.

TBX-19252 What's New in Toolbox App 3.8 IDE updates on macOS macOS was sometimes incorrectly reporting an IDE installation directory as non-writable, causing the Toolbox App to needlessly disable an update that would have otherwise succeeded. The Toolbox App now keeps these updates available for manual installation. If macOS blocks an update, the app shows instructions for resolving the issue. TBX-10297 Keyboard navigation On Windows, you can use the Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2 shortcuts to switch between the Tools and Projects tabs.
