Today we're releasing Krita 5.3.4 and 6.0.4, containing many bugfixes and improvements across the board. It also finally brings video exports to Android, which means you can now render animations and timelapses from the recorder. Apart from that, Arkady Flury has been improving Krita's icons at a steady rate. Thanks! Also of note: the GIMP XCF file import plugin has been removed. The plugin relied on a third party library that is no longer maintained and had many security issues. Changelog - Don't allow to record images that are too big (2^29spixels) - Fix recorder export when some frames are missing - Disable long-press on canvas widgets (Bug 525361) - Fix layer thumbnails scaling when using display scaling - Fix openening large exr files - Fix writable resource path validator (Bug 521186) - Fix channel flags when converting the image's color space - Fix a rare crash when creating a new image on Windows (happens when the user holds a key while creating the image) - Fix a crash when a python plugin specifies an invalid action path - Fix resetting native touch gestures on configuration change - Fix issues with adding resource bundles and resources on Android - Fix a crash when "First Frame" shortcut is used when a file with a linked audio track is open. (Bug 524212) - Fix the recorder interrupting using tools (Bug 488472) - Fix potentional crashes with some fonts (Bug 523857) - Do not warn the user about active global selections masks when exporting a file - The comic…

Today we're releasing Krita 5.3.3 and 6.0.3, containing many bugfixes and improvements across the board. Android Donations and Supporter benefits On Android, version 5.3.3 lets you support Krita's development directly through the application. This goes through the Play Store, so if you have a device without Google services or are using a debug or nightly version of Krita, it won't be available and instead will show you donation links. In return for supporting Krita, you'll be able to download resource bundles directly in the application, including the paid Digital Atelier bundle. The splash screen and welcome page will also tell you about the supporter packs or donation links. You are not required to make any purchases, no features are locked behind a paywall and you won't get nagged about it while you're actually working. You can also of course still manually import resource bundles, the downloads are just a convenience feature. For a longer explanation and a way to give feedback or ideas, take a look at this forum post. Changelog Special thanks to Freya Lupen and Elena Sagalaeva, for multiple bug fixes, as well as the many newcomers who contributed to this release (named in the changelog). - Don't free hold frame undo command at scope exit (Bug 520732) - Added get started, community, website and source code icons (Thanks to Arkady Flury) - Try removing shell=True from the python calls on Windows - Get rid of division by zero in the KisMplTest.( Thanks to Elena Sagalaeva)…

Hot on the heels of Krita 5.3.2, we're releasing Krita 5.3.2.1. 5.3.2 had a bug with the layer docker that was very pervasive, and could cause anything from unsynced layers to crashes to groups not behaving as they should. 5.3.2.1 fixes this. Furthermore, we also had some issues where the Windows packages weren't signed. This too should now be fixed. [!WARNING] We consider Krita 5.3.2.1 suitable for productive work; 6.0.2.1 is, because of the many changes from Qt5 to Qt6 more experimental. Download 5.3.2.1 Windows If you're using the portable zip files, just open the zip file in Explorer and drag the folder somewhere convenient, then double-click on the Krita icon in the folder. This will not impact an installed version of Krita, though it will share your settings and custom resources with your regular installed version of Krita. For reporting crashes, also get the debug symbols folder. Today we're releasing Krita 5.3.1 and 6.0.1. This release mainly fixes an issue for Windows users: some applications, like Microsoft Windows Powertoys' Fancy Zones or the Google Drive plugin cause problems for Krita. These applications query all running applications for their accessibility abilities. Until Qt6, Qt's QML module, which is used extensively in the new text tool, would then recursively query all active screen objects, like comboboxes or buttons, and up and down the entire class hierarchy for accessibility features. This slowed down Krita to the point where even menus would be slow to open. It was extremely tricky to figure this out, since none of the Krita developers actually use these external applications... But it should be fixed now! There are more fixes in this release: - The mutator shortcut is now Ctrl-alt-shift-m instead of Z in accordance with the plugin's manual. - On Android, the canvas will not pan up when you use the text tool - On Android, the OnePlus stylus middle click button works - Animation Key Frame copy pasting now works in Krita 6 - On Wayland, drag and drop is fixed (Wayland clears the clipboard when a new window is opened, so now we have to cache the data.) - The canvas resize dialog now works correctly when changing units (bug: 517857) - The Incremental Backup/Version saving function now works in Krita 6. - On Android, text fields should no longer block stylus movements, pressing spacebar should work as a shortcut and the view should no…

Today is the simultaneous release of Krita 5.3.0 and Krita 6.0.0! Depending which version of Qt and KDE Frameworks you build, the same source will result in one of the other. Both versions are almost functionally identical, with 6.0.0 having more Wayland functionality. But note that since Krita 6 is still considered rather experimental, since it's our first release based on Qt 6, and there were many complicated changes between 5 and 6. For real work, please use 5.3.0! We expect 6.0 to become the main version of Krita before the end of the year, though. What's New Video courtesy of David Revoy. Krita 5.3/6.0 is the result of many years of work by the Krita developers. Some features have been rewritten from the ground up, others make their first appearance. Enjoy the completely new text feature: on canvas editing, full opentype support, text flowing into shapes. It is now easier than ever to create vector-based panels for comic pages. Tools got extended: for instance, the fill tool now can close gaps. The liquify mode of the transform tool is much faster. There are new filters: a propagate colors filter and a reset transparent filter. Support for HDR painting has been improved. The recorder docker can now work in real time. There is improved support for file formats, like support for text objects in PSD files. And much, much, much more! For a complete overview of everything, check out our extensive release notes! 5.3.0 Download Windows If you're using the portable zip files…

Today we're releasing Krita 5.2.14. This is going to be the last bug fix release for 5.2. This release in particular contains many bug and usability fixes for Android. Touch-and-Hold Color Picker The color picker has been improved to make it look, feel and function better. The most important change is for touchscreens: you can now press the screen with one finger and hold it in the same spot to bring up the color picker. This is enabled by default in all input profiles. If it doesn't happen for you, either reset your canvas input settings to the defaults or manually assign the One Finger Hold gesture like this: New Color Picker Preview Aside from that, the preview has also been changed from the rectangles side by side to a circle around the cursor. This gives better visibility to the colors you are picking and also means that your right hand won't obscure the preview if you're drawing on a screen tablet. If you don't like the way this looks, you can change the appearance of the circle in the settings or go back to a two-rectangles style preview instead. Except now you can choose whether you want them on the right like before, on the left or on top of the cursor. Additionally, the long-standing issue of the preview getting rotated and mirrored along with the canvas has been fixed. It will now show up in the same spot no matter how you spin it. Changelog: Beyond that, we have a ton of smaller usability fixes for touch, a new icon on MacOS and much more. Special thanks to…

Today we are releasing Krita 5.2.13! This is a bugfix release containing a number of important Android fixes, courtesy of Carsten Hartenfels, our new Android Maintainer. The release also includes a security fix that affected the work with TGA files. 16K Page Size support Some devices running Android 15 have so much working memory that Android 15 increased the page size (the smallest unit the working memory is divided up in). To work with on these devices, programs like Krita need some adjustments, or else they won't even run! With Krita 5.2.13 you won't have to worry about this distinction anymore, as 16K page size support has been added. Saving fixes One of the most frequent crashes on Android was caused by background saving going wrong. We've overhauled the saving service, fixing crashes when Krita was being shut down or when it is inactive in the background. Now, operating systems like Android make file system handling a little tricky because they would like to keep each file inside a so-called sandbox, so your program cannot do anything without your explicit permission. This is generally a good thing, but it is very different from how desktop operating systems work, and we're still working on figuring out how to make Krita work more pleasantly while staying inside the sandbox, so look out for that in the future! Transform fixes Previously, the transform tool would not work with touch, because it relied on mouse-press, instead of mouse-click, which is what touch events…

Today we're releasing Krita 5.2.10! This is a bug fix release. After this release we will focus on releasing Krita 5.3.0, the next feature release, and Krita 6.0.0, the first release based on Qt6. Krita 5.2.3 is released after several weeks of testing of the beta. In addition to the core team, special thanks goes out to to Freya Lupen, Grum 999, Mathias Wein, Nabil Maghfur Usman, Alvin Wong, Deif Lou, Maciej Jesionowski and Rasyuqa A. H. for various fixes, as well as the first time contributors in this release cycle (Each mentioned after their contribution).
